Hello Ball Ground:
Thanks to everyone for responding to our questions last week. Adding additional severe weather warning devices is an expensive and lengthy process but we have provided the information to Cherokee County EMS to let them know where our key spots are. In the meantime, we would encourage everyone to visit the Cherokee EMA website and sign up for the code red alert system. Doing this will turn your cell phone, our even the land line in your home to your own personal warning system. Just go to www.cherokeega-ema.org and click on the “CodeRED” tab on the top bar of the website. It will take you through the steps of setting up your own personal warning system. Additionally, towards the end of the setup, you will also have the ability to download an app that will assist you in receiving alerts based on where you are with your phone. This could be a great feature when traveling.
We had a great crowd for the fireworks Saturday evening – and our local businesses are reporting they had great evenings as well. We can’t thank you enough for continuing to support Ball Ground Businesses. It looked questionable for a while, but the weather finally cooperated. We will be making some changes for next year’s show which will be on the Saturday prior to July 4th. The show will be larger next year and some of our local civic organizations will assist with parking both before and after the show. We will also be working on a new traffic control plan in an attempt to make your arrival and departure a little easier as crowds continue to grow.
Our next event in the park will be on July 15th when we will be showing “The Good Dinosaur”. We will kick the movie off around dark. Maybe we will actually make it thru this one without rain. Our rainouts outnumber our successes this year, but it sure does beat a drought like last summer so we won’t complain.
Work will begin soon on drainage improvements to the Children’s playground in Calvin Farmer Park. We will do our best to make certain that the work site is cleaned up each day, and the playground placed back in use when work is not actively underway. So if you show up at the park, and you see the yellow caution tape around the playground area, please be patient and stay clear. We will do our best to minimize the downtime.
Have a great week.
