At last we are beginning to get some hints of spring and some pretty weather.  Unfortunately we are getting just enough rain in between to keep the ground sloppy, but we are still slowly making headway on our parks.  The contractor is still promising sod in the City Park by late next week – but personally I think it will be the following week.  Would love to be wrong.
We are very happy to say that as of 10:30 Friday morning the City of Ball Ground became the proud owner of the burned out structure located at 420 Gilmer Ferry Road.   As of this morning the house has been torn down and debris is being cleared.  This eyesore is history!
On Saturday morning the engineer hired by the Court to conduct the inspection of the old brick building at 275 Gilmer Ferry Road (right in the center of downtown) conducted his initial assessment and we should have a written report by noon today.  We believe that the report will be conclusive enough to allow the City to seek an order for immediate abatement of the nuisance/hazard. 
City Council meeting is Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.  A final Agenda will be published later today – but currently we have the following items on the agenda:
1)         Consider an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Cherokee County that would provide for City property tax bills to be collected on the same bill as your Cherokee County Bill and School Board bill.  This would improve service delivery as residents would only have to process one bill to cover all property taxes.  Additionally, the City would be able to be represented by the County in the fi fa process on delinquent taxes.
2)         Three property owners have petitioned the City for annexation.  Two would be residential developments on Marian Spence Road.  One annexation would be for the expansion of an existing business already located in the City.
3)         A presentation to Mayor and Council regarding the Georgia Main Street Program.
