City Election

CITY OF BALL GROUND
MUNICIPAL ELECTION

 Notice is hereby given that a General Municipal Election will be held in the City of Ball Ground on Tuesday November 2, 2010. Polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Ball Ground Community Center.  The purpose of this election will be to elect (3) three Council Members.  Those elected will serve a four-year term.   The terms of Council Members Andrenia Stoner, Lee Prettyman and Frank Homiller will expire. 

 Qualifying will open at 9:00 AM on Monday, August 30, 2010 and will conclude at 4:30 PM Wednesday September 1, 2010.  Candidates will file their qualification document in the office of the City Clerk located at 215 Valley St. Ball Ground, Georgia. The non-refundable qualifying fee is $35.00.  Candidates must have been a resident of the City of Ball Ground for 12 months immediately preceding the election and shall be registered to vote in Municipal Elections of this City.

 To be eligible to vote in this Municipal Election, city residents must be registered to vote no later than the close of business on Monday, October 4, 2010.

As a Candidate per The Ethics in Government Act you are required to file the enclosed Campaign Contribution Disclosure Reports and Financial Disclosure Statement.  The Campaign Contribution Disclosure Report is due in the office of the City Clerk on the following dates:

A Personal Financial Disclosure Statement covering the period of the preceding calendar year is due in the office of the City Clerk no later than the fifteenth day following the date of qualifying as a candidate. Only one Personal Financial Disclosure Statement is required per calendar year.

 Newly Elected Officials Training

If elected per O.C.G.A. 36-45-4 city officials elected after July 1, 1991 must attend a training institute designed specifically for Newly Elected Officials.  The Newly Elected Officials Institute provides orientation to municipal government in Georgia.  Topics include the roll of the mayor and council; the legal, ethical, and financial aspects of city government; and intergovernmental relations and working together within the city council. 

The two-day training institute is offered through a partnership of the Georgia Municipal Association and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia.   Date and time of this training will be announced at a later date.
